If you are caring for an elderly loved one, you need to be sure you are providing them with the best care possible. There are many needs they might have that you can help them out with. If you can’t help them with all these needs, it is time to bring in home care providers to assist with their care.
Personal Care Needs
There are many personal care needs that your elderly loved one might need assistance with. They might need help with medication reminders, transferring from their bed to a chair, toileting help, dressing, grooming, and bathing. These tasks might become more difficult for your loved one as they get older. If your elderly loved one needs help with any of these things, make sure you or home care providers are giving them the help they need.
Housekeeping Assistance
Your elderly loved one might need assistance with housekeeping tasks, as well. They might need help making their bed, doing the laundry, taking out the trash, doing the dishes, mopping or sweeping, wiping off their counters, dusting, or vacuuming. These might become more difficult for them as they age. You or their home care providers can assist them with these tasks. Be sure you divide up these tasks, so nobody gets too overwhelmed.
Meal Planning, Shopping, and Meal Preparation
As your elderly loved one gets older, they may need more and more help with meal planning, shopping, and meal preparation. They might not remember what groceries they need to buy. Your elderly loved one might need help at the grocery store. They may not be able to reach up to the top shelves or even be able to bend down to the bottom shelves. In addition, your elderly loved one might need help prepping their meals and having a companion while eating, too.
Companionship
Once your loved one gets older, they might need more companionship. Some of the friends they have may pass away. This leaves them feeling lonely. They need you or home care providers to spend time with them. Make sure you are giving them quality time at least a few times every week. If you can’t be there enough for them, make sure you have enough home care providers who can spend quality time with them.
These are some of the top home care needs that your elderly loved one might have. If you find that your elderly loved one has more needs than they used to, do what you can fulfill those needs.
